If your 4th Grader needs a little tweak on their reading comprehension, this is the app for them!
The app provides 20 fiction and nonfiction books that can be read in 5-8 minutes. After the story is read there are a series of questions with 4 possible answers relating to specific aspects of the story. The child simply taps on the answer they feel is correct. The text relating to the answer will then be highlighted with either an acknowledgement stating that it is correct, or the correct answer, with the question shown.
I like the fact that some of the questions are directly related to the meaning of the words within the story. Not understanding the definition of words, in written and spoken communication, is a fundamental in lack of comprehension.
The app allows for multiple users, ability to change text size and emailed results to track students progress. The score received is also shown next to the story once the Q & A is complete.
Should you want to get a feel for the app before buying, you can download “Reading Comprehension Prep”, which is a free version by Peekaboo Studios which includes a hand-full of stories for grades 3-5.
Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
