This app is really quite endearing and I would highly recommend it above most other phonics and reading apps, mainly because of the level of adult participation required. It is designed to help parents teach their children how to read using phonics. And it's not done through catchy songs, or silly cartoons.
Babyfonics genius encourages parents to invent, play games and tell stories to their kids involving the phonetic sounds of the letters. Through doing so, the child's participation is invited and eventually he or she learns the sounds and words and how to read.
The app features instructional videos giving loose ideas on how to use the app. It is not dictatorial or pedantic, but really insightful and provides a lot of helpful tips and strong encouragement.
The app itself features some flash cards of the most used letters of the alphabet. It walks parents through four phases of activities with their children. First are some basic letters. Next are some additional letters and letter combinations. This builds up to phase four where words can now be sounded out and read – a LOT of words.
Each phase also has a blank whiteboard for parents to invent all sorts of games and stories featuring the letters and words in each phase of learning.
I found this app a lot of fun and easy to use, while inviting creativity. Teach your child how to read yourself, using this helpful app. You'll create lasting memories with such wonderful quality time.
