Box Island is an award winning educational game that was created to teach kids the basics of coding. It's 3D graphics are stunningly beautiful and the audio is just plain fun. The player will learn concepts in pattern and sequence recognition, algorithms, loops and conditionals – all intrinsic to coding. Each of these are gradually introduced to the player, with some added thinking and reasoning skills, while performing different tasks in order to move a cube shaped character named Hiro to his goal.
Before entering Box Island, The Hour of Code game will take the child through 20 games to hone the new skills in. Once this is complete you then embark on a journey to explore Box Island. The first 10 levels are free with a total of 100 levels in all. Choose out of three levels of play; 6-8, 9-11, or 12+.
An added benefit in learning programming is that it enforces thinking and reasoning skills, which are important in all aspects of life. And you never know, you just might have a future programmer on your hands!
