Chem Lab

Age Level: Ages: 12 +
By Developer: Brian West

Featured on the App Store "Apps for Learning Chemistry" Oct. 2011

This app teaches students how to build simple chemical compounds. Given a compound name, the player drags elements into a flask. If the correct elements are chosen, in the correct ratios, you are a winner! If you are wrong, your concoction explodes! Either way, you are shown the correct answer. This great app introduces chemistry in a fun, game-like fashion and really IS a GAME, which in playing allows you to build some simple compounds. You need not have had experience doing this before.

There are over 60 compounds, at this writing. This app is perfect for the high-school level student.

Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

  • You are given the following elements to work with: Sodium, Hydrogen, Potassium, Carbon, Nitrogen, Oxygen, Sulfur and Chlorine
  • You are provided with the name of a compound, such as "Potassium nitrate" and you drag the appropriate elements into the provided beaker
  • If you add an incorrect ingredient, the beaker explodes!  (Not really, just on-screen.)
  • You are then provided with the correct chemical formula.
  • Answer correctly and go on to the next formula.
  • After every 5 questions, see your score and how you did (and which ones you need to work on).
