Dexteria VMI was created to help children with fine motor and perception skills. It is also a perfect app for those with special needs challenges, such as autism.
There are two games included within the app: Make This and Match This. Each game has three levels of difficulty that are unlocked as you progress. You can play a level as much as desired, go back to an earlier level, or go on to the next.
Make This: The player is shown an object, or as the game progresses, a multi-layered object, such as a white square with a red circle within it and an orange diamond centered in the red circle. At the beginning of the game you are dealing with only one object and size. As the game progresses, the objects can vary in size, and all objects may be one color, vs. three. In addition, at higher levels one is only shown the object to be recreated for a matter of seconds, with a question mark replacing it. Should you need to see it again you can simply tap on the question mark and it will show up for a few seconds. You can do this as many times as needed.
Match This: This game is actually somewhat easier, in that you are shown a single to one multi-layer object in one to three colors and simply choose from the provided object on the page, an object that is the same. As the game progresses there are more objects and an increasing level of difficulty. Once again, at higher levels the object to match is only available to be seen for a matter of seconds, but you can bring it back by tapping on the question mark.
The app keeps score of your time for each game and level. These can be cleared in “Reports”, or you can challenge yourself and work to improve your score. You also have the ability to email the scores. One can turn off the sound on the home screen.
All-in-all a very impressive game that is simple to use and very effective!
Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
