Heat HD

Age Level: Ages 8-12
By Developer: Sprout Labs, LLC

Did you know that the heat of a pan and the heat of a book, both in the same location, are actually the same temperature? Well, I have to say that this is indeed a fact, and one that I didn't know until I watched a video on this app. A video without big words, for children to get hung up with, that I found very interesting and compelling.

Heat HD is just another amazing app by Sprout Labs. This particular app covers the topics of heat and our environment as well as the chemistry and physics of heat. With 5 learning modes to choose from (or view them all), so any student can lean via their learning interest.

The methods of learning are as follows:

In the Read and Learn mode, there is simple to understand information on each of the subjects provided. One can read the text, or have it read to them. Including are amazing facts.

Touch and Learn provides high-definition photos, including a brief caption. Within the photo are "hot spots" where you can tap and read additional information.

See and Learn provides high-definition photos with captions, which balances out the information with something that you can "attach it to". This is key in learning. When reading about something if you don't have the "thing" on hand to look at, photos are the next best thing.

The Watch and Learn mode is jammed pack full of interesting informational videos. The app has 14 excellent videos in all!

Additionally there is a Quiz section where you can test your understanding. The question increase in difficulty as you move through it. Answer the questions correctly on first try and win coins! Everybody likes a game!

I enjoyed every minute of my learning experience, and walked away with a much greater understanding of the topics provided. What almost amazes me more is the price of this app! $1.99 for something that spans grades 3-8, with an abundance of very interesting and compelling content.
