Back when I was a youngin' learning about history in school, I always felt like I just didn't really care that much. Sometimes it was interesting, but it seemed so far away and disconnected. I'm pretty sure your 12 year olds and slightly older, just now starting to learn about old things that happened like a zillion years ago feel the same way. Use this app to introduce them to history, but in a way that hits closer to home. When they can see and touch and feel history, they might change their tune.
This app pinpoints your GPS location and shows historical sites all around you. Each pinpoint has a picture and a brief history discussing the historical significance of each location. If you live in San Francisco, for example, you won't go more than a block or two without running into five of these things. It's a pretty detailed app and it has like a bazillion locations for you to visit all throughout the United States.
When you take your annual trip to Boston this year, why spend $40.00 per family member to ride on a tour bus listening to an indifferent guide droning on about random facts? Be your own tour guide – for free.
If traveling, or you just want to learn more about your home city, I highly recommend this app.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.
