Upon opening this app you are asked the questions: “Why do we see stars even though they are far away?” “How do bats fly in the dark without bumping into things?” It then goes on to stay that studying light and sound answers these questions and that at the end of the lesson you'll better understand how our senses experience the world. This includes learning how light travels and creates color, as well as how sounds are high and low.
And how do they go about teaching you all this? Through 4 learning modes.
In the Read and Learn mode, there is simple to understand information on each of the subjects provided. One can read the text, or have it read to them.
Touch and Learn provides high-definition photos, including a brief caption. Within the photo are "hot spots" where you can tap and read additional information.
See and Learn provides high-definition photos with captions, which balances out the information with something that you can "attach it to". This is key in learning. When reading about something if you don't have the "thing" on hand to look at, photos are the next best thing.
The Watch and Learn mode is jammed pack full of interesting informational videos. The app has 25 excellent videos in all! You will even find TED-Ed videos as well as Bill Nye the Science Guy, just to name a couple.
Additionally there is a Quiz section where you can test your understanding. The questions increase in difficulty as you move through it. Answer the questions correctly on first try and win coins!
Once again, Sprout Labs has created one brilliant app (no pun intended), which I don't think you will be disappointed in. I definitely learned a thing or two while reviewing it. Plus, I enjoyed every minute of my learning experience. What almost amazes me more is the price of this app! $1.99 for something that spans grades 3-8, with an abundance of very interesting and compelling content
This app is perfect for schools, home-school environments and just filling in the cracks and reinforcing what one has already learned.
Compatible with iPad.
