Oscar goes to the Zoo is just one of several story books created by You Tell Me Stories Foundation, Inc. Each book is geared towards teaching your child reading comprehension skills, story-telling and structure, writing skills, increasing literacy, and as with this one, communicating a nice message or moral.
Oscar the Dachshund is not very happy today. His friends are nowhere to be found and he is feeling a bit like maybe there is something wrong with him. Taking himself to the zoo, he finds that not only would it not work to be like other animals, but that he is actually just fine the way he is.
A special feature of this book and series is what is called WordWinks. As well as the main story, additional comments, questions and clarification are added, written in red text. A parent, teacher, or the like, can use these prompts to help the child increase literacy and overall comprehension. This feature can be turned off in the settings.
In the Retell, Record and Share mode, the child is prompted to place the story in the correct sequence. This is done by sliding 5 pictures from the book into the correct sequence. One can then record their own depiction of the story and share it with others via email. This special feature helps to develop listening and speaking skills and awareness of important details.
I have to say that I am beyond impressed with You Tell Me Stories Foundation. Their apps are beautiful, easy to navigate and and all-in-all very impressive. Each of their educational care packages are created to make the world more literate and at no cost to the consumer! Very, very nice!
