If you like Rocket Speller, you are going to love this app! Little Big Thinkers does know how to think BIG! This app interplays a rocket building and star collecting game into a fun and engaging learning experience.

There are 5 different levels of difficulty as follows:

  • 3-6 letter words. Place letters in any order. Audible and visual hints.

  • 3-10 letter words. Order required. Audible and visual hints.
  • 3-4 letter words. Order required. Audible hints. Adaptive assistance.
  • 5-6 letter words. Correct order required. Adaptive assistance only.
  • 7-10 letter words. Correct order required. Adaptive assistance is provided only as needed.

As each game progresses, the player picks out different parts to a rocket he will fly at the end of the game. You can create any kind of wacky rocket you want - there are 1000's of possibilities.

As Zip, the friendly alien, takes you to different words to spell, the word is spoken by him and you are asked to fill in the missing blanks with the letters shown. On easier levels the letters are shown both in the blank areas as well as below. Upon touching the letters it says it's name or sound. One then drags the correct letter to it's position (the game will not allow you to go out of order). Once the word is spelled, the word is said again. In the case of using the phonics mode, each letter (or combination of letters) is sounded out and shown, and then the whole word is sounded out. Should there be a silent letter, it stands out but does not make a sound. There are many letter combinations available, such as “ai” “tt” “ion” and many, many others.

The settings allows you to choose the level, category, phonics/letter sound, as well as upper and lower case. Since there are 5 different categories this makes for a lot of game play.

This app gets a big thumbs up from us!
