I always keep my feelers out for apps that encourage health habits, so this one perked my interest. This app doesn't necessarily go into the effects of unhealthy eating habits, but it definitely does give the idea that it is not a good idea. You can easily expound on this by asking your child a questions such as, “Do you think the dragon felt very good after eating all the candy and cupcakes?” and the like.

This app goes a long way to encourage early reading skills, with highlighted word-by-word narration and the choice of auto-play, all of which are surrounded by beautiful graphics. You are given the choice of reading the book yourself, or having it narrated to you. In addition, there is a great deal of interactive fun that your child can find and explore, such as making a bird fly across the screen, feeding the dragon and much more.

All-and-all, I found the app to have a fun and engaging learning experience. Make sure your child knows that the word “glutton” means someone that eats an excessive amount of food, and in this case – unhealthy food!

Requires iOS 6.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
