Space by Tinybop

Age Level: Ages 5-8
By Developer: Tinybop, Inc.

8th in the series of Tinybop's Explorers Library, “Space” is a multi-layered app that teaches kids about our Solar System through interactive games and lessons. It's beautifully designed, gorgeous and very educational.

To begin using the app, choose your vessel of choice and enter your name and blast off into outer space! Once done, you are taken to a page showing the Solar System with an abundance of choices. Get a closer look at each planet, moons and the sun. Interact with them to see their layers, how different objects react by being in contact with them, close up views, their rotation, their atmosphere, including windstorms, the list goes on and on.

The app is completely visual, with no audio other than some dramatic space-infused music. There are some labels, such as those showing the different layers of a planet. These drop off with a tap, allowing the child to correctly put them back to their proper place.

I have to say that this is the best Solar System based app I have found for kids. Very impressive!

The app comes with a free handbook, which includes discussion questions, facts, images, sources and interactive hints. This is perfect for the home or classroom setting, allowing teachers or parents to work with their children. The handbook can be downloaded within the app or by going to http://tinybop.com/handbooks

Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
